Interior Decorating

What exactly is a certified interior decorator? How do they differ from interior designers? When should you decide to use a certified decorator? These are some questions that should be asked before hiring a decorator or designer.

Certified decorators have completed training through a C.I.D. Certified Interior Decorators International approved education program, and must maintain membership in C.I.D.. They are not required to hold college degrees in design. Designers must have degrees in interior design.

Certified decorators furnish finished spaces using the elements and principles of design. They cannot make architectural or structural changes. Any project requiring these changes should be referred to an architect and/or interior designer.

You should hire a decorator for several reasons. First, decorators are professional consultants who are trained in the principles of design. Second, decorators are project managers that will oversee the project from the initial design conception through purchasing and final installation. They will often manage the work of the flooring installers, painters, upholsterers and master craftsman. Third, hiring a decorator can be more economical than a designer.

At ANI we manage all aspects of the design project, from conception to installation.  After the initial complimentary consultation, we will devise an estimate based on the parameters of the project. Once the scope of the work is decided upon, the design process begins. The process includes aesthetically pleasing and functional designs based on style preferences, budgets, goals, and lifestyles; floor plans; color consultation; furniture, flooring, window treatments and other fabric recommendations; and selection, delivery and installation of furnishings.
